About Michelle
Michelle is a born and raised Calgarian with Downs Syndrome. As a young adult, she found herself drawn to the finer things in life whether it be in fashion, food, or art. She became known for having an eye for beauty. To express herself when words failed her, she began painting. Each stroke was an expression of her truest feelings and emotions. Each work of art was a release and escape into beauty when the outside world was too much. Her collections span over 10 years and each piece represents a pivotal time in her life.
Through the pandemic, Michelle knew deep down that art would be what kept her grounded. She invested more time in the studio and has created new pieces which she is proud to share with the world today.
Over the past 10 years, Michelle has donated thousands of dollars from sales proceeds to the Calgary Health Trust and the Neonatal Unit at the Alberta Children’s hospital. Two causes which are near and dear to her heart as a proud aunt of 4 pre-mature babies.
Throughout her career and long-standing relationship with art, it has become clear that Michelle is most certainly a passionate and talented artist living with Down Syndrome, not a Down’s Syndrome artist.
